Ban those telemarketers!

The Australian government today launched the Do Not Call Register to allow you to register your phone numbers and stop getting Telemarketing calls.

The UK have something very similar since 1999, (which was set up largely due to the massive surge in Double Glazing Salesmen) The Telephone Preference Service.

It comes into force in June, and applies to anyone making calls from or on behalf of Australian based businesses. That includes Call centres abroad that are working for an Aussie company. Unlike the UK TPS it doesn't cover charities, political organisations and parties or religious organisations from calling. Gladly if a company breaks the rule they can be fined up to AUD$1.1 million.

I say go register as its a start in the right direction.

As an added bonus it been made and programmed in Adobes ColdFusion.
